Skin Cancer as a Result of Smoking

For this review there has been used the article "Smoking and risk of skin cancer: a prospective analysis and a meta-analysis" by Fengju Song et al. The goal of this research paper was to investigate the possibility of getting skin cancer from smoking. It was made in the hospital among the individuals categorized according to their smoking variables (smoker, non smoker, heavy smoker). They were diagnosed with different types of cell cancer such as: squamous cell carcinoma, nodular basal cell carcinoma, superficial multifocal basal cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma. During the personal interviews, all the information about the smokers was collected, for example the period of smoking, methods (pipe or cigarettes), type of tobacco etc. After that, the retrieved results were checked and calculated. Basing on that information, it was clarified that there is no actual connection between smoking and skin cancer, because the chances of getting sick with skin carcinoma among the smokers are very small.

Sometimes they are even smaller than for the non smoking patients. By this, the scientists busted another myth about the ways of getting cancer one more time, and simultaneously making this discovery a significant contribution to the development of medicine and science.

This investigation is very helpful, not only because of proving the idea that skin cancer and smoking are not connected with each other, but it is good and fresh information for the students, and especially for people that are studying in medical colleges/universities, as well. Because of the relevance and importance of this topic, they can use it for writing their term papers, dissertations, etc. Also this is a peculiar method to remind the smokers about the danger of smoking, because the experimental subjects were mostly treated in the hospital as a result of cigarettes.

The main benefit of this research paper is the clarification of the given material, so anyone can understand it; the work is structured and also helpful; despite that this research is just the repeating of the previous investigations, it has some new useful information and methods.
