Hit counters are passé, now that even free web hosts offer site statistics.
If the graphics aren't top-quality, don't use them at all. There is an awful lot of mediocre clip art online. For a few links links to quality clip art, visit my Links for Website Designers.
If you want to include "fun" or personal things on a professional site, such as links pages, photos, or other materials, that's OK, but keep them relatively unobtrusive. You might even openly designate a section for "fun stuff."
